The stanley history has only been traced back to the 1800's.
I do not know if any further research is or was made.
This ancestor chart may be confusing,
but I will try to put it as simple as I can.

  • VIRGINIA QUAKER STANLEYS and DESCENDANTS
    (1.)Adam de Aldithley, of Normandy, accompanied the Duke of Orange to England, and had large possessions conferred upon him by the conqueror.
    (2.)Adam de Aldithley came to England with his father.
    (3.)William de Aldithely, Lord of the Manor of Thalk, County Stafford, J.U., having exchanged Thalk for Stonely, and half the Manor of Balterley, with daughter of Thomas Stanely, of Stafford.

    (5.)Sir William Stoneley or Stanley
    (6.)Sir Adam Stoneley, 2nd son of Sir William.
    (7.)Sir William Stanley, Lrd of the Manor, and Bailiwick of Wyrall forest, and assumed the armorial bearings since used by his descendants, viz. Argent (white) or (yellow or gold color, represented in heraldry, by small dots on a white surface), Azure, (represented in heraldry by horizontal blue lines) and three stags heads, in place of those bourn by his ancestors. He m. Joan, eldest daughter of Philip de Bamville and his wife, Agnes, daughter of Aexander de Stourton.
    (8.)John Stanley, Lord of Stourton, m. Mabella, daughter of Sir James Hausket, Knight of Stourton Parva.
    (9.)Sir William Stanley, Lord of Stouton, m. Alice, daughter of hugh Massey, of Timperley, and sister of Sir Harmon Massey, of Durham Massey.
    (10.)Ssir John Stanley, K.G. He was Lord Deputy of Ireland in 1385, and had a grant of the manor of Blake-Castle, in that kingdon; m. Isabel, daughter and heiress of Sir Thomas Latham and Knowsley, County Lancaster.
    (11.)Sir John Stanley, Knight of the shire, Constable of Carnarvon, Justice of Chester, Sheriff of Andlesy; m. Isobel, daughter of Robert Harrington.
    (12.)Sir Thomas Stanley, Lord Lieutenant of Ireland for 6 years, 1432; m. Joan, daughter and co-heiress of Sir Robert Goushill, Knight of Heveringham.
    (13.)Thomas Stanley, 2nd Lord Stanley, m. Eleanor, daughter of Richard Nevil, Earl of Warwick and 1st Earl of Derby.
    (14.)Sir George Stanley, summoned to Parliament as Lord Strange; m. Joan, daughter of Jogn, Lord Strange of Knockyn; co-heiress of the Barony of Mohun.
    (15.)Sir James Stanley, seared at Crosshall, County Lancaster, was marshall of Ireland; m. Ann, daughter of Jogn Hart, of Lullington, Conty Kent.
    (16.)Henry Stanley, Esq. b.1515; m. Margaret, daughter of Peter Stanley, of Bickerstaff, Lancastershire; d. July 23, 1595.
    (17.)Edward Stanley, Esq. of Bickerstaff, created Baronet; b. at Arley, May 4, 1640; m. Isobel, daughter of Sir Peter Warburton, Knight of Arley, Chestershire; 2nd wife.
    (18.)Henry Stanley, christened at Ormakirk, Sept. 3, 1617; m. Mary, daughter of Hamley Cropper, of Bickerstaff.
    (19.)Edward Stanley, Esq. of Preston; m. had 6 sons-some of whom, Thomas and John, are said to have come to Virginia late in the 17th century. He d. Jan. 1755, aged 103 years.
